CLINICAL CASES
Dental Inlays

Ceramic or composite dental inlays have replaced the old amalgams, gray dental fillings that, in addition to looking ugly, contain 50 percent mercury, causing problems for the thyroid, kidneys, liver, heart, and other tissues.
Inlays are laboratory-made fillings that are then cemented into the cavities of the previously prepared tooth.
The tooth is prepared in the same way as for a filling, which, instead of being performed by the dentist, is done by the dental laboratory on a precision impression. The inlay will then be cemented into the cavity during a second session in the office. Inlays have better aesthetics, high accuracy of fit with the tooth, greater durability, and are more conservative toward the tooth.

MY CLINICAL CASES

Recovery of function and aesthetics of molar teeth

Patient request
The patient wishes to recover the function and aesthetics of the severely compromised molar teeth.

Treatment and results
After recovering healthy tooth structure by removing excess gum tissue, the two teeth were devitalized. After taking a precision impression, we went to fabricate two all-ceramic inlays that restored excellent function and aesthetics to the patient.

Making ceramic inlays

Patient request
The patient wishes to restore the integrity of molar and premolar teeth that are reconstructed with old amalgam fillings and gold inlays, infiltrated by caries, fractured, and incongruous in function and aesthetics.

Treatment and results
After completely removing the old restorations under dam (protective sheeting), a precision impression was taken to make perfect all-ceramic inlays, which restored excellent function and aesthetics.

Fractured premolar tooth recovery

Patient's request
The patient wishes to recover the fracture of the premolar tooth.

Treatment and results
The tooth was devitalized and reconstructed with an all-ceramic inlay that was made after taking a precision impression.

Recovering function and aesthetics of molar teeth

Patient request
The patient wishes to restore the integrity of the first molar tooth, which was reconstructed from a fractured old composite filling, and to replace the caries-infiltrated amalgam restoration of the second molar tooth.

Treatment and results
After recovering the integrity of the first molar tooth through minimally invasive gum tissue surgery, the tooth was devitalized and prepared to be reconstructed with an all-ceramic inlay, which restored perfect function and aesthetics. For the second molar tooth, it was sufficient to take a precision impression, after completely removing the old amalgam restoration and preparing the tooth for reconstruction with an all-ceramic inlay.

Replacing the filling

Patient request
The patient wishes to replace the old amalgam filling infiltrated by caries.

Treatment and results
It was sufficient to remove the amalgam and take a precision impression to create an all-ceramic inlay that restored perfect function and aesthetics.

Replacement of filling with all-ceramic inlay

Patient request
Patient presents for pain in second molar tooth reconstructed with a caries-infiltrated amalgam filling.

Treatment and results
Upon performing the follow-up radiograph, it is noted that the pain is caused by incorrect devitalization. We then proceed to retract the tooth correctly, remove the old amalgam and the underlying caries. Next, a precision impression is taken to make an all-ceramic inlay.

Fabrication of integral ceramic inlay

Patient's request
The patient presents with a fractured composite restoration, infiltrated by caries and pain in the first molar tooth.

Treatment and results
Having performed the control radiograph, we see that the pain is due to wrong devitalization. We then proceed to endodontic retreatment of the tooth, removal of caries and the old composite filling, and then take the precision impression to make a perfect all-ceramic inlay.
