Having a beautiful smile with white teeth is the main calling card in determining the first impression, even in the business field.
How then to get healthy and whiter teeth?
Nowadays, numerous whitening techniques are available, starting from do-it-yourself at home to professional whitening in dental offices.
Among the latter, the most widely used is undoubtedly tooth whitening using LED or plasma lamps; however, this is not the safest and most effective technique.
For the past few years, in fact, the use of lasers as a whitening technique has also been introduced in the dental field, with considerably different results than with classic lamps.
How do the two treatments work?
Both are activators of a hydrogen peroxide-based gel that is applied to the teeth with the function of a whitening agent.
The difference between laser whitening and traditional lamps is that the laser light is much more powerful than that of lamps and allows better penetration of the whitening substance into the tooth.
In addition, the laser allows perfect and total control because a nib is used that can precisely direct the light evenly along the entire tooth surface or at specific points on the tooth. It is a treatment totally controlled by the operator. In contrast, lamps emit a dispersive beam of light that is undirected and cannot be controlled. Thus the teeth are constantly exposed to the light from the lamp for at least 20 minutes, suffering a thermal shock that can lead to pre- and post-treatment hypersensitivity, often irreversible.
Another notable difference is that the laser lingers on the individual tooth for very short periods, about 10 seconds, without ever affecting or igniting the tooth pulp.
The laser has no contraindications and is also recommended for those with tooth sensitivity.
The laser has longer lasting effects, especially if a proper dental hygiene routine is maintained the results can last up to 2 years.
In my opinion, the laser represents an outgrowth in terms of performance and benefits compared to the classic whitening treatments most commonly found in various dental offices today. Therefore, my advice is to go only to professionals in the field who specialize in dental aesthetics to beware of scams!
In fact, very often lamps are mistakenly called lasers.
